Awe and admiration are the words that could describe your first contact with the surreal landscape of Hydra, something like a discovery that connects you to the most primordial forces of the Earth, when nature was the epicenter of man and not his environment.
The island around the 18th century, given its parallel prosperity in fleets and trade was characterized as Mikra Agglia, and this glamour and romance its owners chose to bring to our plate and glass, with comfort suggestions that upgrade every aspect of traditional Greek cuisine, and an extremely solid wine list with labels from the Greek vineyard.Â
It’s action is shared between the crowded Tombazi and a lush garden at the back, an elegant setting without a dress code, where finesse in taste and presentation come to the fore: The charismatic executive chef Aris Roussos and Serial Eaters – with the guidance and the owners’ feedback – listened to the fine ingredients, where inspired, combined them, and with the use of techniques and preparations found in international cuisines, created dishes that remain unforgettable. The octopus with marrow is excellent, the decomposed pastitsio with beef cheeks, the Hydra-red mullet savoro with an insurmountable celery root puree and raisins.
Open from early in the morning, Mikra Agglia serves an equally strong brunch – with a Greek twist – and choices with creativity and imagination such as eggs poached to perfection with fresh tone but also other creative delicacies, in which e.g. bearnez is replaced by eggnog, aromatic oils are used, etc. for subtle differences from the trivial with an essential taste imprint.
Its conceptual approach to today, expands with a unique and elaborate shop-in-shop where one can find handmade products from every corner of our country, such as hand-embroidered earrings, wonderful sandals, pottery from Sifnos and more.
