Christopher and Stefanos Delatolas grew up in Tinos and invested in Tinos. Growing up they were inspired to create a place that highlights and upgrades the local gastronomy of the island and makes the visitor a receiver of the products for which Tinos is famous. And so Horeftra was born.
It is located in the central square of the traditional village of Kampos – which with its Venetian architecture resembles a small Castle – just opposite the church of St. Catherine of the Russians built in her honor by the Tsar. The off-white traditional Cycladic houses, the arches, the bougainvilleas, the drafia and the colorful pots, create an idyllic setting and open your appetite before the menu arrives.
What will you taste here? Unsurpassed cooked dishes such as pork leg with sun-dried tomatoes, capers and eggplant puree, a wonderful moussaka with artichokes – a landmark vegetable on the island – beef stewed in wine with handmade tagliatelle, rooster with barley. All the depth, all the essence of Greek cuisine, with its rich flavors, colors and quality of fresh vegetables, sourced from the large garden of the family, made with passion and love.
Its wine list follows the same philosophy, with Tinian wines for the most part, and some meticulously selected labels from the rest of Greece, microbreweries and spirits, while through the speakers of Horeftra you will find peace with artful Greek songs. For the sweet ending, hold your appetite for a magical ekmek, stuffed with Greek tsoureki.
